accessible spyware removal tools

I just ran a system restore very successfully to remove some spyware worm or trojan from my computer that avg or adaware se personal couldnt get rid of. I love avg, and I know that adaware se personal is no longer updating... So my question is this: what ad and spyware removal tools does everyone use and find accessible. The worm I removed was particularly nasty in that it would inform me that I was infected and try to get me to install some "spyware protection" that was probably a bigger and badder virus. It had installed several unwanted things in control panel programs. so I'd like to prevent anything like it from infecting me again. any ideas are appreciated.

That's a nasty worm. I've gotten that too and also had to do a system restore. I'm using Ad aware professional. You're welcome to it if you'd like it.

I used to use Spybot Search And Destroy, so I know it's accessible.

Alison, just a suggestion, but don't offer coppies of software you have to pay for. lol it's against the TOS.
Spybot search and distroy is very good these days, I scan reasonably frequently, think it just updated to vertion 1.52 and if you then turn on I think it's imunisation, you are protected automatically against a lot of stuff, even without a regular scan.

hi, the original poster was saying ad-aware personal wasn't updating anymore. to get around this go to lavasoft.com and, somewhere, download the latest definitions file. then unzip it to your ad-aware directory.

HTH!

I use super anti spyware (www.superantispyware.com). It caught several things on my desktop that spybot S&D never found. If you pay for the program, it updates automatically every 8 hours. Otherwise, it updates whenever you restart your computer, I believe. Just to be safe, I manually update it before running a scan.

Actually, I use adaware1.6 and it is still updateing itself for free.

I always thought that Ad-aware stopped updating itself sometime last year?

I believe it was post 5 who suggested going to lavasoft and unzipping the latest update to the adaware directory. it worked flawlessly! thanks!

I'll just say then that if anyone else would like more *information* about addaware pro, send me an email. Lol.

yeah welcome flcomputergeek. Haven't tried AA1.6 I am attempting to use the 2007 command interface. Anyone have any luck with that?
also I have heard FS is working on making AA2007 accessible with jaws, but no news there.
thanks.

I'd also say that Super anti spyware is a good choice as well. WHen I do use my windows PC, which is less and less often now, I really like it. I'm currently running the free version, but considering getting the pro version
